How we plan to challenge a convention in our film

We are challenging the typical romantic genre convention of having a happy ending in our film because at the end it doesn't all work out happily ever after for him even though he has been shown throughout the film to be the one to feel sorry for and has lived a dismal lifestyle which, as the audience, you take pity on. Therefore our ending is fairly unexpected in my opinion and contrasts with what you would normally expect to happen.
